Edgar Sarin / Hunky Dory

With two homes in Arles in southern France and Kobe, VAGUE is proud to present a new collaboration with ‘Collection Lambert’, a contemporary private art museum in Avignon that was established in 2000 by Yvon Lambert, a prominent art dealer and collector since the opening of his gallery in Paris in 1966. The project will host exhibitions at VAGUE Kobe, featuring young artists supported by Collection Lambert.

The inaugural edition will feature a solo exhibition by Edgar Sarin, selected by Stéphane Ibars, chief curator of Collection Lambert. Edgar’s pieces explore formal inquiries into political and environmental harmony catalysed by human intervention, focusing on generative ruins and challenging the exhibition space. This time, materials like wood and stone are sourced from local partners, which Edgar will be using to create new works during his production residency at VAGUE KOBE. The exhibition will showcase works spanning various genres, including paintings, stained glass, sculptures, and objects.

Meaning ‘wave’ in French, VAGUE embodies the concept of triggering creation spreading gently like waves, where people gather, connect, and expand. This collaboration with Collection Lambert will be held regularly, inviting emerging artists from various genres. Its objective is to transcend the dichotomy between East and West, striving for the creation of new beauty through the fusion of cultural differences.

 南仏アルルと神戸に拠点を置くVAGUEは、60年代からパリのアートシーンを牽引してきたギャラリスト／コレクターのYvon Lambert （イヴォン・ランベー ル）によって、2000年にフランス南部アヴィニョンに構えた私設美術館「Collection Lambert （コレクシ ョン・ランベール）」と協力し、彼らが支援する若手アーティストの展覧会をVAGUE KOBEにて開催いたします。

第一回目は、Collection LambertのチーフキュレーターであるStéphane Ibars（ステファン・イバル）によって選出されたEdgar Sarin（エドガー・サラン）の個展を行います。

エドガーの作品は、人間が触媒となる政治的・環境的調和の形式的な探求を提示し、生成的な廃墟を扱った作品や、展示空間に対する問題提起によって注目されています。今回は、VAGUE KOBEに馴染みのある木材や石材などのマテリアルをセレクトし、エドガーが神戸で滞在制作を行います。それらの新作とともに、絵画、ステンドグラス、彫刻、オブジェなど、多岐にわたるジャンルの作品が一堂に会する展覧会となります。

フランス語で「波」を意味するVAGUEは、人が集まり、繋がり、波のようにゆるやかに広がっていくクリエイションのあり方を示しています。この企画は、今後もCollection Lambertが将来有望と判断した様々なジャンルからアーティストを招待し、定期的に開催する予定です。東洋と西洋という二項対立を乗り越えて、さまざまな文化が溶け合った新しい美の創出を目指します。
